Dessert for Dinner

Today’s recipe was chosen carefully. I wanted a recipe classic enough not to scare away waffle purists, yet creative enough to flaunt the potential of a waffle blog. As I flipped through my cookbook “Waffles: From Morning to Midnight” (the found freebie), a recipe aptly titled “Triple Apple Waffles” caught my attention for two reasons: one, triple anything sounds way more zesty than double or single anything, and two, I have an intimidating number of apples currently lurking in my fridge. So Triple Apple Waffles it is.

Before I get down to business, I thought I would introduce the mind and machinery of my new trade. On your left is the famous yellow cookbook, (written by Dorie Greenspan, for those interested). And on your right, my waffle iron. I think the three of us are going to become well acquainted in the next few months.

You probably weren’t wondering where I got my waffle iron — until you read that sentence. Now you’re hooked. It too was a Freebie, from my brother’s ex-roommate’s cousin’s friend. I may have added a degree of separation there, you can decide for yourself which one. Like all the other important electronics/appliances in my life, I think my waffle iron deserves a name. (My piano — Monty, my sewing machine — Rosalind, my guitar — Albert, and my camera —Audrey; all for different reasons which I will not bore your with). So I hereby declare my waffle iron a Polly — after the woman whom I have never met, but who wrote “Everything on a Waffle”.

Without further ado, here they are! Triple Apple Waffles with Caramelized Apple-Rum Compote

The following is a rubric to guide my waffle rating. The number symbol in brackets ((#)) represents a waffle. The number of waffles corresponds to the rating. The first three don't have any short-form as I trust my culinary skills enough to never have to resort to those ratings.

-3: Call 911
-2: Disgusting
-1: Dislike
0: Nothing to write home about (0)
1: Like (#)
2: Delicious (#) (#)
3: Foodgasm  (#) (#) (#)

I would give today's waffles a (#). I liked them. Period.

    1. Hi Tyler! Yeehaa, my first follower! I can most definitely include recipes! I will always include those that I create myself. As for the recipes from Greenspan's book, I may not be as consistent but I'll do my best!
